The fact that it's locked to the PS Vita might make it all the more impressive, but it also makes it all the more tragic not just because of the narrow install base provided by the console, but equally because its small handful of imperfections are a direct result of developers Guerrilla Cambridge attempting to integrate all of the Vita's bells and whistles into the gameplay.

The PS3 would've been proud to play host and, with a little extra polish, it could've made its mark on the PS4, too. Killzone: Mercenary is a brilliant first-person shooter, and I don't just mean 'for a handheld game' either. Really glad you enjoyed the game, and hope you enjoyed writing about it just as much, because it certainly seems so from this reader's perspective! Thanks for sharing! You've reminded me of some nice moments from the game that I often overlook in my general 'meh' towards it (the light-reflecting statue puzzle, for example) but I still always seem to find myself running out of patience towards the end of a playthrough, long before those Guardians show up. And yes, as we've mentioned before, those pesky endgame Guardians are more annoying than anything else.Īlas, we seem to disagree on almost every other point! The location variety and extra thought required to survive certain shootouts is impressive. I don't disagree that some of the gameplay set-pieces in Among Thieves are a huge improvement and quite the technical marvel, and I can't argue with your analysis of the level design, either. Definitely a lot to figure out, and then that final slight switch in tactics, when it stops being about its interaction with the environment and becomes more about the two of you alone, would've caught me out, for Another excellent Uncharted review! It sounds like, once you've figured out that initial step, it'd become increasingly clear that it's the 'bait to win' one of the bunch, but I've often found that those kinds of encounters and / or boss fights cause a great deal of uncertainty, either thanks to unpredictable A.I. Thanks for explaining the tactics for that particular colossus. If somebody turned around and told me that a new Star Wars game required that kind of time investment, even I'd have my doubts!

And then go into the war from there and focus on the shooting.Ouch! I'd missed that article but you're right, perfect timing! Honestly, I'm not surprised to see mixed reactions to that kind of brag. ISA on one side, and Helghast on the other. If they made another game then just skim over the back story, say the Helghast eventually took over Vekta and a few other planets, and now the galaxy is split in two. Trying to get more out of the current conflict is too messy. I don't really want another Killzone game unless it is set waaaaay into the future. The setting, lighting and sound almost felt like the original dead space. I thought the Zero G mission especially was a highlight. Having said that, the Zero G and train station missions were very well done and interesting. I know they can't milk the Helghan war forever but going down the shadow ops route where every mission turns into a normal gunfight anyway was pretty bland. The missions and the gun-play were interesting enough, but I was disappointed it wasn't it wasn't Killzone 4. Why the fuck would you give over half your planet to the Helghast, and why the fuck would you let them just appear all of a sudden and enslave/round-up/start killing your civilians?

Personally I thought the whole setup and premise of it was stupid. I actually picked it up again a couple of months ago when I had a slight lull in games to play, and got to the second to last mission, but have not got round to finishing it yet. And I played the opening level and then left it.
